The streak, does it end?

Postby IsoHockey92 on Mon Mar 15, 2010 7:28 pm

So, they are playing this up pretty big this year. A rematch with Undertaker v Shawn Michaels. Undertaker won last year, so it seems like they want to play off Shawn wont lose twice in a row to Taker in WM's. What do you guys think?

First of all, I have to admit two things. The first one, I will catch flack from some on. The streak doesn't really mean that much to me. No particular reason, it just doesn't. Second, I always get caught in these types of matches where they offer you A or B. Example...will Taker win, thus ending Shawn's career or will HBK win, ending Taker's streak? Vince McMahon and the WWE are very adept at throwing option C at you when you least expect it, and I end up saying to myself..."Oohhhh....why didn't I see that coming?" Will that happen again this year? Who knows. What could option C be in this case? No idea...Double DQ possibly? It would suck, but I'm just throwing it out there. Usually when they hype a match this much, emphasizing the two possible outcomes, a third possible outcome looms in the shadows.

For the record, I'm going to say Taker's streak.....continues....

Well it can't be no DQ because it's a no dq, no count out match. anything goes in this one broham.

i read a back stage rumor that hbk was not going to come back until wrestlemania next year, and possibly as his "send off" match. i have a feeling taker wins this match, and hbk goes in the hof next year.

Taker wins. I say Taker never loses at Mania. There's nothing to gain from a WM loss, and it always gives WWE something to work with years down the road with perhaps another phenom.

I think Taker wins since they will probably run his streak to 20-0 and then he'll retire. Personally, I'd like to see Bret Hart get his revenge for Montreal by beating Vince and then costing HBK his match and career. But more than likely it will be HHH costing him the title and starting his heel turn to battle Cena for the title yet again.

Wow, you think Taker is willing to go another 3 years?...he DOES have a lighter schedule...I dunno, it can go either way, I guess.
I think Vince favors Taker...him and HBK have always TOLERATED each other, but which superstar has been the biggest draw for WWE?
Bah, whatever...I'm talking to myself. I can argue it either way and still not come up with an answer I believe in.
HBK WINS based only on He lost last year, he wins this year.

The biggest draw has been Taker. For as great as Shawn has been (I think he belongs in the argument with Hart and Flair for best ever) he was never given the prolonged pushes that Taker got. Think about it: Taker has been a main event player pretty much since he debuted. Shawn had to fight for it, and only had a brief run before the back injury put him out.

Guess I haven't been paying attention as much lately...thanks.

I agree, as well, that HBK beating Taker serves no purpose other than cementing HBK as "Mr. Wrestlmania"...sorta... Now if it were someone like Sheamus or another up and coming "Future of the Business" type, you could make a case (not that I necessarily think Sheamus is or isn't... But really, given the quality of guys Taker has beaten in the streak, who you could they possibly have him job to now?

Not to change the subject, but Justin made me think of something. Is HBK really "Mr. Wrestlemania"? Do you think his legacy is considered bigger and better than Taker's? Should the answer to that determine who should win?

HBK can have a name like Mr. WrestleMania.
It would even be too frilly to call Taker that, it isn't his gig...but at 17-0 for WM, he is The Man at WM.

I kind of wonder at what point they decided to run with this streak thing. I think a couple of his wins were by DQ. But I wonder at which WM they decided to run with the whole streak thing.

Can't say for certain when they started the streak angle, but I only remember it being mentioned in the last 5-10 years. Its almost like they didn't even realize that he never lost until he was at 10 wins.

As for HBK being "Mr. Wrestlemania" his record is only like 6-10, but thinking back to all the wrestlemania's he has been in, what matches stood out more than the ones he was in? He has stolen the show almost every year. He even made the match with Cena exciting.

Yeah, Kev's got it right, I think. I get the Streak, and I like it, but who has had a bigger impact on Mania between the two than HBK?
